Showtrial

Though the majority of this mind-twisting BBC courtroom thriller was filmed in Bristol, its star location was a little north in Gloucestershire. For the home of property billionaire Damian Campbell (James Frain), the production borrowed this statement-making glass-fronted waterside villa in the Cotswolds, at the Philippe Starck-designed The Lakes near Lechlade-on-Thames. Surrounded by forest, it’s one of a series available to rent, complete with an onsite restaurant and spa.

Succession

For a family party fit for a media magnate, follow TV’s most dysfunctional clan to the Villa Cetinale in the small town of Sovicille in Tuscany. Renting this 17th-century building brings you 13 rooms, a pool, a private chapel and extensive gardens, plus chef and waiters as standard. It’s up to you whether, like the production, you also hire a British holiday planner to ensure that all the high-life trappings are in place.

Sex Education

The Netflix favourite has always made the most of its Welsh-border locations in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean, but the Scandi-style  chalet home shared by star Otis and his sex-therapist mother Jean is such a one-off it’s hard to believe it’s real. Called The Chalet, it’s available to rent, treetop-skimming balcony views and all.

Address: The Chalet, Symonds Yat East, Herefordshire HR9 6JL

Normal People

This Lockdown 2020 phenomenon spent most of its time in Dublin but wasn’t averse to travel. One highlight was the visit to Marianne’s family villa in Italy, played by Il Casale in Tenuta de Verzano, near Sant’Oreste, about 25 miles north of Rome. Complete with the pool and wonderful views we see in the series, it’s available to rent on airbnb. Not far away is Stimigliano, where Marianne and Con eat ice cream in front of the church of Santi Cosima e Damiano.

Money Heist

Netflix’s hit Spanish crime caper headed out of Madrid when big boss El Profesor and cronies gathered for an away-day planning session in this old hunting lodge. Called Finca El Gasco, it’s near Torrelodones, about 20 miles north-west of the city in the open countryside, and is more usually a wedding venue.

Maid

In Netflix’s surprise hit of 2021, this oceanfront pine cabin is single mother Alex’s salvation. Supposedly on the show’s upmarket Fisher Island, it’s really Tideview South Beach Cabin in East Sooke, in British Columbia, Canada. Rent it on Airbnb and you’ll also have access to the blissful gazebo where Alex throws her daughter’s birthday party.
